Parsendow Translation Ltd is a translation company run by
Ata Arif. Ata was fond of learning languages and being able to communicate in a
different language from childhood. Ata’s lifestyle,
his background and the fact that he is a Kurd, has been an important factor him
being multilingual. When he went to the University of Baghdad to study for a BA
in English language and literature, it was a good chance for him to improve his
knowledge of the Arabic language and culture as well. Besides the English
language and literature, he studied German as a second language, and through
self-study and own motivations he taught himself Farsi.
Ata worked as a teacher, translator,
and interpreter in Iraq and as translator and interpreter in Iran and Iraq for
many NGOs including:
- Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe E.V
- Technisches HilfsWerk -THW
- Hospital Sans Frontier (Hospital Without frontiers)- HSF
- Hilfe fur Kinder in Not (Children’s Relief)
- Association for Humanitarian Aid and Development
Ata was working for the organizations above as an in-house
interpreter/translator and as part of their job, they had close contacts with
the government and other NGOs and organizations such as the MSF (Doctors
Without Border), The International Red Cross, IOM and the United Nations
organizations including UNICEF and UNHCR.
When he arrived in the UK, he started voluntary work to help
the police, NHS, refugee and asylum seekers groups and support teams, Drug
Action Team, Victim Support North West,
and Children’s Society North West. Later, to improve his knowledge he studied
criminology and gained a BA (HONS) Criminology first class degree from the
University of Lancaster-Blackburn College.
Being a criminologist is a big advantage for Ata's career as
a translator and interpreter, as he deals with a wide range of areas of
interest to criminologists including:
police, probation, court services, social services, local authorities, fraud,
trade and business, immigration, security and international threats.
Ata is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists
(MCIL) English- Kurdish Sorani.
Ata has a Diploma in Public Service Interpreting English
Law- Kurdish Sorani- (DPSI- Law).
Ata is also on the National Register of Public Service
Interpreters NRPSI-Kurdish Sorani.
